RISK MANAGEMENT

How to properly manage risk in an outdoor setting. Learning how to identify what amount of risk is worth it or not. This was extremely important to learn for being a guide as decided how much risk is safe to expose clients to is important to understand.

The foundation of being a guide. DIscussed the different types of leaderships and at which instances are best for the different leadership styles.

EXPEDITION PLANNING

Emergency response plans, meal planning, and route selection just to name a few. First year we did a mock trip plan assignment which was a great lead up to preparing our trip plan for our final expedition in our fourth semester

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Understanding the environment in which we work. Learned about the animals, trees, and earth features of our natural environment. Went on a lot of feild trips toexplore the natural environment of Pembroke and the surrounding Ottawa Valley

SOCIAL MEDIA

A huge part of our industry nowadays and how we can use it to our advantage. In Marketing classes we discussed how to use social media to our benefit as well as who is using social media and how different platforms work.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher
Great skills for everyone to learn in no matter what industry people are choosing to work in.

OUTDOOR INDUSTRY

Different aspects about the industry in which we work in. For entire semester we each analysed a different section of the outdoor industry- its strengths, weaknesses, where its located, where it could be better etc
